The Yellow Course (Original Summer)

During the pandemic In the fall of 2020 and the winter of 2020/2021, due to social distancing requirements, Fred, Stephen, and I couldn’t play soccer. So, I invited them to join me for a round of disc golf. We had a great time and started playing two to three times a week. Most of the holes were in the woods, but the leaves were on the ground, so it wasn’t too challenging. However, when spring arrived, we thought disc golf would be too difficult to play because the trees would grow and it would be impossible to play in the woods during the summer. So, we decided to redesign the course to have a summer course or a course that could be played year-round. We thought about a hybrid course that had both wooded and open holes. After playing for about six to eight months, we made some progress in terms of distance, but we knew we had to challenge ourselves, so we made it more difficult with nature obstacle instead. In the end, we decided to keep the now original summer course (yellow) because our long-time friend, Fred, moved to Australia with his wife. We needed to make a decision quickly.

The Blue Course

The Original Winter Course

Unfortunately, due to pandemic regulations, Australia closed its border, preventing Fred and his wife, Donna, from moving. After a farewell tour through the USA saying goodbye to all their long-time friends, they found themselves homeless as they had sold their house and car and shipped all their belongings to Australia. Consequently, they stayed at our guesthouse until the border reopened in December. Since Fred had been staying at our property for three months, we decided to construct an all-wooded course that would be more suitable for our dogs. Our dogs enjoy hunting squirrels, rabbits, and other woodland creatures. Over the course of three months, we diligently worked to create the blue course, which we named the winter course initially, assuming it was only played during the winter months. However, we’ve discovered that it’s now played even more frequently during the summer months, thanks to its shaded terrain.
